heavy protest song about the ugly state of political greed,
wealth inequality, fiscal policy, unemployment, depression,
ecological disaster, government apathy, and legislative treason.
hard to believe it was written and recorded thirty years ago. especially and emphatically the "ipse dixit" part, which is in the news daily.
so, it is even more appropriate and urgent today, and probably in years to come, if the past is prologue. it sure as hell is, here.
hey boy its payday, the check is in the mail, whatcha gonna do
tax man is waitin, the wolves are at the door, nothing left for you
work all night, to get a little extra, try to pull us through
some body tell me, wasn’t supposed to be like this, not for me and you
but you know, dreams come true, so we did everything we could do
oh you, you never dreamed about, naked truth, our broken dreams become 90’s blues
u.s. loanin’ money like its radioactive, well its almost gone
rate on those junk bonds mighty attractive, now they aint worth a song
crooks in the congress a bunch of mental midgets, we know who’s side their on
inflation unemployment nearing double digits, man this can’t go on
but you know, dreams come true, so we did everything we could do
oh you, you never dreamed about, naked truth, our broken dreams become 90’s blues
yo mista moneybags what about yer trickle down, you seemed so sincere
way that i see it, ya never let a nickel down, i got your trickle down here
banks are failin’, ceo’s are bailin’, they don’t give a damn
stock market crashin’, you aint gonna cash in, the spit has hit the spam
but you know, dreams come true, so we did everything we could do
oh you, you never dreamed about, naked truth, our broken dreams become 90’s blues
four years of college, bought all you knowledge, now yer on the skids
student loans aint paid off, when you get laid off, how ya gonna feed the kids
i aint cryin’ in my beer for no reason, there’s millions just like me
ecology, economy, its legislative treason, in the land of opportunity
but you know, dreams come true, so we did everything we could do
oh you, you never dreamed about, naked truth, our broken dreams become 90’s blues
california earthquake weather, past and future slam together, in the hear and now
tired of ipse dixit, you aint gonna fix it, you never learned how
salary yer makin’ aint bringin’ home the bacon, aint you heard the news
pawn your possessions, its the great depression, learn to sing the blues
but you know, dreams come true, so we did everything we could do
you never dreamed about, naked truth, our broken dreams become 90’s blues
